Week 7 - Vintage Instagram Tree

This picture was taken by a friend in the park on campus. To me this picture speaks of playfulness, happy memories, and Fall! The patterning of light created by the tree could be interpreted easily onstage with a gobo, to create the feeling of Fall in a piece. The photo is "instagrammed" which I am not particularly a fan of, as it makes it difficult to see the actual colors of the moment in time. But it is a comment on stylization and color. For this "instagram filter" it kind of creates a more brown look than the original image, which, to me, makes it feel more vintage. Perhaps this could be used to inspire a vintage feeling in lighting for a piece on stage as well.

  1. Great photo - so much strength in the tree and the position of the figure

I like the idea of applying filters to natural photos to help us "stylize" our thoughts when preparing to mount them theatrically

  2. Great Image! The texture from the tree is great and is so interesting as it falls onto the figure. That in itself gives life to the image. The addition of the filter, to me, adds that's vintage quality you see. I would love to hear your ideas on how this would translate into "vintage lighting."

  3. Hmm... well I'm not the pro... but perhaps a vintage look could be made onstage with lighting using browns and/or tans for gels? Or maybe that would just look like dirt...
